2022 FUNDING UPDATES: HOUSING

This year we received a request from Lao Cai province to fund a project rebuilding 5 village houses at the verge of collapse. Below you can see pictures of the houses that some of the student families live in: they have no protection against rain, cold weather, have no light, electricity, or outhouse. The wooden boards are rotting, letting in the wind and dirt inside the house.

We decided to use some of the funding this year to build new houses for these families. The last 2 pictures depict a new cement house that villagers can build for $,2000 worth of donation money.

We would really appreciate your support on this project! We will be posting updates about the house construction throughout the year!

LUA NON SCHOLARSHIPS IN ACTION

In the last 2 years we have been receiving pictures from our communities in Lao Cai and Dak Lak showing student families and schools receiving Lua Non donations.

We would love to share these pictures with you as well! Here you can see:

• Award ceremony in Dak Lak where selected students received Lua Non scholarships

All of this happened thanks to the kindness of our donors, friends, family, and staff who worked tirelessly to make it happen!

I wanted to share excerpts from thank you letters that we received from our Lua Non 2020 scholarship recipients! Grateful to you all for supporting our foundation's work!

Nguyễn Thị Xuân

My parents are farmers and due to their poor health, they can't do anything else but light work. My sister is also seriously ill and has regular medical treatment in Hanoi. In these circumstances, I sometimes feel helpless and uncertain about my academic path. However, thanks to the encouragement from my teachers, and above all, thanks to the help from the Lua Non scholarship fund, I finally had the courage to overcome difficulties. I feel appreciated and grateful for this.

...I wish to become a teacher to educate students on various subjects, empower them with life skills, and most importantly, help them understand how to share love, solidarity, and deliberate practice.

Phan Thị Thanh Hương

At the beginning of high school, a serious illness fell on me and my family. My dreams collapsed and were replaced by the disease’s pain and the worries about tuition, medical, and treatment expenses.

I've always dreamed of going to school happily and healthily like in the old days. There were times when I felt so desperate and pessimistic, but with the encouragement from my family, teachers, and friends, I kept trying. And I felt very lucky when I heard about the Lua Non scholarship.

Thanks to the scholarship, my parents were partly relieved from the struggles of paying tuition and medical expenses. I myself feel motivated to heal and study harder so that I can pursue my dream of becoming a good doctor.

I always try my best, although the time spent on medical treatment takes up a lot of studying time. I always have an optimistic spirit because I know that the future is awaiting me.

At the times when I sit quietly to think about events that happened in my life, I feel how much I appreciate this life. Although my life still has many challenges ahead - I'm not alone. I have family, friends, relatives, and warm hearts by my side. They, with their open arms, are protecting and helping lives like mine to fulfill a small dream.

For my dream, I wish the best for my family. Because my parents passed away, I wish my grandparents to be always healthy. I wish ...they didn’t have to work too much in their old age to earn money and raise me. I wish the sweat no longer rolled down their cheeks on burning summer noons and the cracks in their hands would disappear…

Receiving Lua Non scholarship last year was a very meaningful gift to me. I want to give everyone at Lua Non my sincere and deepest thanks.
